We wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves (left – Melinda, right – Lena). We are two sister-in-laws who, through our own health struggles, adapted a new lifestyle, which includes following a wholesome diet, eliminating the foods that triggered inflammation resulting in a variety of symptoms. We knew that we had to omit certain foods, but we didn’t want to feel deprived. Our first cookbook, Healthy Comforts, includes over 160 recipes, that are FREE from dairy, grains, gluten, soy and refined sugar. Our cookbook was created to share what we’ve learned about using alternative ingredients while still enjoying our comfort foods. Our recipes demonstrate that you can have you cake and eat it too!

Lena Ferrara, C.I., is alternative health practitioner and owner of Nostaglica Foods. Her passion for recipe development and finding alternatives for comfort foods that are gluten, dairy and refined sugar free led her and her husband to manufacturing and distributing a grain, gluten and nut free pizza dough mix with an authentic taste and texture. Melinda Rapallo-Ferrara, MEd is a Special Education Program Consultant, with a Master's degree in Literacy Education. She is a Certified Nutritional Therapist, and is currently completing her certification in Holistic Nutrition. She is passionate about exploring how nutrition can support the mental health and well-being for students and their families. The kitchen is her happy place, and she loves making her family's favourite comfort foods.
